STATEMENT: FCP Only Party to Fight Against NDP-Tory Supply Management
EDMONTON, AB: Freedom Conservative Party (FCP) Leader Derek Fildebrandt responded to the Government and Official Opposition attempts to impose Supply Management on Alberta’s Oil and Gas industry.
“Alberta’s energy sector is in a period of crisis, but the answer is not heavy-handed intervention in the economy. The NDP’s proposal is unacceptable, but is surprisingly far less extreme than the proposal made by the Tories.”
“Last week, the Tories broke from their free enterprise policy and called for legislation which would enforce mandatory price and production fixing. The Government has decided to instead use the Alberta Energy Regulator to enforce production quotas."
“The FCP will fight the NDP-Tory attempt to replicate the failure of supply management in our energy sector, and will continue to fight for free market principles in the Legislature. The two establishment parties are working in concert for the interests of big government and big business to fix market prices. Producers who wisely predicted that this government would not get pipelines built will be penalized for making smart business decisions." – FCP Leader, Derek Fildebrandt
