RELEASE: NDP K-4 Curriculum Includes "Social Justice" and "Diversity" Requirements in Math, Science

EDMONTON, AB: The NDP's announcement of the new K-4 curriculum reveals the ideological approach the NDP want to take towards teaching our children.

The NDP's plan would add measures related to “Social Justice”, “Diversity”, "First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Experiences and Perspectives", and "Francophone Cultures and Perspectives" into every single subject, including math and science.

The introduction to the new curriculum gives their agenda away when it makes it clear that tolerance and diversity are not sufficient, and that only the NDP's special "social justice" form of pluralism is acceptable:

NDP Curriculum (CITATION): "Pluralism requires support for social justice for all people and groups to ensure that students are not prevented from realizing the full benefits of participation in society. This also addresses injustice faced by those who historically were, and continue to be, marginalized or experience discrimination. Ethnicity, socioeconomic conditions, community, religion, culture, gender expressions and gender identities are among various forms of identification that people — including immigrant and refugee families — live with and experience in a variety of ways."

FCP Leader Derek Fildebrandt: "Teaching children about pluralism and tolerance, and informing them about the harmful ways governments treated a wide range of minority groups in the past is a vitally important part of a rounded education, but that does not mean that we should accept the NDP's insertion of social justice and historical revisionism into every single subject that we teach our children. There is a place for social subjects, but it’s not in math and science classes.”
