RELEASE: FCP Demands Alberta Senator Resignations
EDMONTON, AB: Today the Freedom Conservative Party of Alberta (FCP) called for the resignations of Alberta Senators Grant Mitchell and Patti LaBoucane-Benson for voting in favour of the tanker ban Bill C-48 and the pipeline killing C-69.
"This is yet another example of the failings of an eastern establishment appointed system, and why it is essential to have a equal, elected, and accountable Senate. For Senators who are in theory representing the people of Alberta, supporting a Bill that is so clearly intended to harm and oppress Alberta makes the call for both Senator Mitchell and LaBoucane-Benson's resignations an absolute necessity."
"We would rather these senate positions be filled by our duly elected Alberta Senators in waiting. Albertans deserve democratic fair representation in our confederation and we will continue to be a strong voice calling for fair treatment of Alberta." -- FCP Interim Leader David White
On June 20th, the Canadian Senate passed into law Bill C-48 and C-69. Two Alberta Senators voted in favour of the bill against strong calls by their constituents to kill the Bill.
